Frequently Asked Questions

EVENT DAY

Where do I go once I arrive?
Our wonderful team of volunteers will be there to greet you. There will be a check-in table where you will confirm your attendance and receive a wristband, drop off your donations, receive your tshirt and loot bag and have the opportunity to rent pedals if necessary.

What should I bring?
You should make sure you have a water bottle or two with you, pre-filled so you are ready to spin when you arrive. Wear comfortable clothing, and remember that you will receive an event tshirt when you arrive. Bring your running shoes or spin shoes and remember that Coast to Coast and 24 Hour Spin merchandise will be on sale at the event – bring cash, cheque or credit card to make your purchase!

Where can I store my stuff?
There is no secure area for leaving your personal items and a limited change area. It’s best to show up dressed and leave your valuable items at home. There will be a small blue bin behind your bike to put a jacket, snacks, extra shoes, etc.

What kind of food will there be?
Cyclists will be provided with a snack pack upon check in, and sandwiches will be served throughout the event – we will offer 2 meat and 1 vegetarian options. Our fabulous sponsor, Starbucks, will provide us with caffeine throughout the day.  Volunteers will bring you fresh fruit while you cycle and will help refill your water bottles.

Why do I have to bring my own pedals?
At previous ‘Spin’ events, many riders were replacing the pedals with their own. Now all the bikes now are delivered without pedals. You can bring any pedals from your own bike, they are a standard fit, or they are available for rent at the event for $5. You can choose to rent regular pedals with straps, which will accommodate a running shoe, or clip in pedals. Clip in pedals require a credit card to rent so please be prepared with your card if you are planning on renting these.

Can my Family and Friends watch me spin?
Yes, family and friends are welcome to watch you Spin and get a peek at the event. Admission for spectators is $15, which includes free entry in to the bike show and a portion collected will be donated to the two causes we are supporting.

LOCATION AND PARKING

Where is The Better Living Centre?
The Better Living Centre is located in the South-West corner of the Exhibition Grounds. The entrance to the 24 Hour Spin is through the South-East doors of the building only – from Lakeshore Blvd., turn on to P.E.I. crescent and the entrance will be straight ahead. The closest parking lot is Lot 2.

Click here for a map of the grounds and information about directions, parking, TTC and GO train information.  The closest parking lot to the Better Living Centre is located just south of BMO field.

Participants and volunteers will have in and out parking privileges at the lots with their wristband.

How do I get entry in to the Toronto International Bike Show?
Participants will receive a wristband at check-in that will give them free entry in to the bike show.  If you can't wait until Saturday or Sunday to visit the bike show, you can gain your free entrance to the show on Friday by entering through the Exhibitors Entrance, which can be found near the show office (there will be signs to point you in the right direction). Simply print out the page found under the Registration tab on your online profile to receive your wristband.

THE CHALLENGE

Do I need to train to participate?
You should be physically active a few times a week to consider participating in the 24-Hour Spin. We always recommend you try to meet the minimum daily physical activity requirements outlined in Health Canada's Physical Activity Guide for the promotion of health and wellness.

Will I be able to ride the bike for that long?
Whether you are riding for 1 hour or 24 hours, use the first fifteen minutes as a slow, gradual warm up and you’ll easily be able to ride for a comfortable pace for the rest of your turn. Like sprinters, you can only go at top speed for about 20-40 seconds, so don’t go all out or you will be too tired to enjoy the rest of your ride. Participants are encouraged to ride at a pace that is comfortable for them and not outside of their normal physical exertion range for sports and physical activity. Pace yourself and enjoy your event!

DONATIONS

Why is there a minimum pledge amount?
The event hopes to raise as much money as possible for the causes involved. There are costs associated with running a large event such as this and the bike fee really covers just that. We are hoping that the pledges will raise the money we need to reach our fundraising goals.

Are donations eligible for a tax receipt?
Yes, donations over $20.00 will receive a tax receipt where the necessary information is included. Donations submitted by cash and cheque should be recorded online by the participant, and require the donor’s full name, address and email address. Cheques and cash can be sent to the Coast to Coast office in advance of the event or brought in on event day. Donations made online will be immediately be issued a tax receipt via email. Our office address is: 96 Mowat Avenue, Toronto ON M6K 3M1

Who should cheques be made out to?
All cheques should be made out to “Coast to Coast Against Cancer Foundation”, who will process the funds and split 100% of the proceeds between the programs at Trillium and POGO that the event is supporting.
